Ah, summer has arrived. Released from school and other obligations, we’re finally free to crawl out of our dimly lit electronic dungeons. It’s the perfect time to get off to the beaches, fields and lakes to enjoy the fresh air and partake in summer activities. Ha, who am I kidding, now that it’s warmed up the Public LANs are just beginning. Time for road trips, excruciatingly long times between bathroom brakes and the sweet smell of high priced, undercooked hotdogs and bawls induced comas. These are the months that we introverted modders finally get out to meet those faceless names on the forums. Unfortunately, some of those who visit these LAN parties aren’t as ethically well rounded as the rest of us. Not only are they there to pilfer our hardware and software but more and more, our personal information and very identity itself are becoming the targets. This is where personal PC Access control measures come to the rescue. Password protected screensavers and other basic techniques of access control are easily defeated by someone watching as you type your password or cheap key loggers attached to your keyboard. Nowadays you need something tangible, a thumbprint, a retinal scan, something they can’t easily copy or take without your knowing. Sadly these methods can be quite expensive and even themselves become victims of the thieving little punk we’re trying to avoid. So this leaves us needing something we can keep on our person the entire time and hopefully something less than two hundred bucks. Well, Lexington Technology thinks they have what it takes to fill our needs without emptying our pockets. They gave us the opportunity to test out the Standalone and Network versions of their “PCAccess” security access control system.
