In the world of new high-end 3D gaming, I have tried just about everything I could think of to improve performance or at least the things I could afford. These upgrades include; optical mice, graphics cards, memory and last but not least, mouse pads. Most hardware upgrades delivered a noticeable increase in overall performance but I still suffered from a nasty little thing that's often referred to as mouse “lag”. You know…the time it takes to turn around when you're being shot from behind, in any number of fast-moving 3D games. This mouse “lag” time can mean the difference between winning a game and being shot “dead”. That's when I began to look more seriously into different mouse pads for gaming. My quest for the perfect mouse pad had now officially begun.

I've read the reviews for just about every gamers' mouse pad I could find. I even went out and bought those cheap, retail store plastic-pads that claim they give better performance and less mouse “lag” than conventional foam rubber and cloth pads when used with an optical mouse. Nothing I tried out or read about seemed to be exactly what I was looking for, until I'd found a Link the Corpad site while reading the original Corepad review here at GruntvillE. I found a product that was so new it hadn't even been released to the U.S. market yet, the Corepad Magna! Could this be the answer to a poor gamers' search for the perfect gaming surface?

The Corepad Website remarks on their new Magna product as follows: “ Incorporating a unique branding feature, the Corepad offers a super-responsive surface which ensures that all your energy goes into wining the game. Place the Corepad at the centre of your gaming system and you too will reap the rewards of the Corepad's innovative design and superb tracking properties .”

I was desperate to find out more about this new product so I'd written to the owner and inventor of the Corepad Magna, Marcel Sibie of Quality Glass in the Netherlands . Being a Custom Glass Maker by trade, Marcel had created the Corepad Company and the Magna on his own, as a one-man operation using his many years of glass-making experience to his advantage. Marcel had spent over two years and a lot of financial resources developing the Magna, until the day came where his “baby” was born. Marcel was kind enough to ship me and GruntvillE the new Magna to try out for ourselves.
