PCExtreme asked GruntvillE to take a good look at one of the new products they are offering. Yes, it is another HSF or Heat Sink fan combo. It seems like there are thousands out, although I am sure they actually number closer to a hundred or so. So why another one? How many different ways can a heat sink be manufactured? Odd as it is they still just keep finding ways to improve on them. King of the Hill here at GruntvillE for some time has been the SLK-900/SLK-948U. Could a new challenger have arisen? My own personal favorite for some time has been the CoolerMaster Jet4. Not only for it’s cooling capabilities but for its radical looks as well. What are we modders and tweakers really looking for? I think it is simply put, whatever is best.

Thermalright designed the heatpipes in this heat sink a bit different. Thermalright states on the web site that orientation of the tubes does not affect the performance. They also claim that the wingspan hanging over the mosfets and Northbridge chip will reduce the PWM temperatures as well. Thermalright also claims this is the first heat sink that configuring either suck or blow will net less than 1% difference in temperatures. Designed with a copper base and aluminum fins not only reduces the weight dramatically but takes advantage of the higher thermal dissipating properties of the aluminum. Leave it up to Thermalright to once again try to outdo their own products offering the XP-120 and its little brother the XP-90. I will be taking a look at the 120mm version. They have also recently introduced a version for the LGA775RM.
