GruntvillE, nor it’s sponsors, employee’s or anyone that knows anyone that visits GruntvillE, nor anyone that knows you, except your parents, is responsible or liable for you damaging your project or any other item or being if you try this mod. This is an example of something someone else did and there is no guarantee that you can do it. Now that the legal mumbo-jumbo is finished. Have fun and good luck.

Supplies needed:

  • USB Cable (like this)
  • Philips screwdriver (medium and small)
  • Flathead screwdriver (small)
  • Wire cutters
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Soldering station
  • Solder
  • Acid Free Flux
  • Shrink tubing (3/32” or smaller, 1/16” preferred)
  • Heat gun
  • Sharp razor blade (Bare)
I was wandering by my local computer shop the other day, and Ken (of NWCA) said “We just got these new EL USB cables, I bet you would like those for something.”

I looked at it, and realized it was an A-B type connector: like for printers. What good is that, what are these companies thinking? Can’t use it for mice, or keyboards, or cameras, or anything but a printer without an adapter. Unless…

Unless I could match up the USB wires and patch it directly onto my favorite Peripheral.

NOTE for readers: some of the close-ups are fuzzy. Many of these photos I took 5 or 6 times. Tiny 7.2MP cameras make Macro shots dicey. My apologies. My tripod will come out for the next one. :)
